Ahoy there! I'm First Mate Neptune. I was living a sheltered life in a tiny cage before Captain Don and Admiral Diana came in to recruit me. When they showed up at the Humane Society, Diana seemed to be undecided about who was going to be assigned to duty, so I decided to stand at ease in Don's lap while he waited for her to evaluate the ranks.

I guess we looked like we would be a good crew because the next thing I knew I was packing my gear and shipping out. Now I live aboard the Sailing Vessel Re Metau.

My duties include bird stalking, nightly patrols of the docks, checking that lines and canvas are secure, hole inspection, eradicating any pests not welcome aboard, keeping watch, and waking up the ship's complement in the morning. I must be doing a good job because shortly after my assignment, the admiral hung some medals on my collar.

But I don't let it inflate my ego too much. I'm just happy to be part of the camaraderie, and to have important responsibilities that bring purpose and meaning to my life.
