North Belnem Reef
The Real Nemo
Spotting the illusive sea turtle became a reason to boast among our group of divers. All the different species were endangered, and so very rare to encounter. Don and I had a sighting on our second dive at North Belnem Reef. He appeared to have somewhere to be, or as the character 'Crush' in Finding Nemo might say "goin' to surf the East Australian current, dude!"

It was fascinating to see all the microcosms of sea life. I could just float over an outcropping of coral for hours, just observing the endless activity. Once, I was overcome with an eerie feeling of being watched and noticed that down inside a little hole was a tiny worm with two huge eyes staring back at me!

But something would always catch my attention and Dory would urge me on to the next reef head. "Keep on swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming …"
